Worm infestation is a common problem in children. Worms infesting human bodies are pinworms, roundworms, tapeworms and hookworms but pinworms and roundworms infest children commonly. These worms reside in the intestines and absorb the nutrients, causing malnutrition in the child.

Children infested with worms show symptoms of persistent scratchy or itchy bottom (anus), variable appetite, and weight loss leading to anaemia, retarded physical and mental growth.
