Spongia tosta CH is a remedy with marked action on the respiratory organs. It is indicated for chronic cough, croup, glandular affections, heart diseases, dyspnoea, hoarseness, bronchitis, etc. Depending upon the individualization of case, it is also used for other problems by homoeopathic physicians.

A remedy especially marked in the symptoms of the respiratory organs. Anxiety leads to difficulty in breathing.

Mind : Excitement and changeability of mood increases the cough. Anxiety and fear.

Head : Rush of blood from head with bursting headache worse at forehead.

Eyes : Gummy or mucus discharge from eyes.

Nose : Fluent coryza from nose alternating with blockage of nose. Dryness of nose with nasal catarrh.

Mouth : Tongue dry and brown with full of vesicles on it.

Throat : Sore throat worse after eating sweet things. Tickling causes cough. Clears throat constantly. Swollen thyroid gland. Stitches and dryness of throat. Burning and stinging pain in throat.

Stomach : Excessive thirst with great hunger. Hiccough with irritation. Cannot bear tight clothing around trunk.

Male : Inflammation of one or two testicles tube of back of testicles Inflammation of testicles. Swelling of spermatic cord and testicles with pain and tenderness.

Female : Before menses pain in lower back with excessive hunger, palpitation. During menses, wakes with suffocative spells. Absence of menses with asthma

Respiratory : Inflammation of one or two testicles tube of back of testicles Inflammation of testicles. Great dryness of all air passages. Hoarseness of larynx with dry, burns and constricted. Cough, dry, barking, croupy; larynx sensitive to touch. Croup; worse, during inspiration and before midnight. Respiration short, panting, difficult; feeling of a plug in larynx. Cough abates after eating or drinking, especially warm drinks. Irrepressible cough from a spot deep in chest, as if raw and sore. Chest weak; can scarcely talk. Laryngeal phthisis. Goitre, with suffocative spells. Bronchial catarrh, with wheezing, asthmatic cough, worse cold air, with profuse expectoration and suffocation; worse, lying with head low and in hot room. Oppression and heat of chest, with sudden weakness.

Skin : Cervical glands swollen with tense pain on turning head, painful on pressure. Goitre. Itching with measles

Sleep : Generally worse after sleep or sleeps into an aggravation. Awakes in a fright and feels as if suffocating.

Fever : Attacks of heat with anxiety. Heat and redness of face with perspiration.
